Brains trust: Aussie and US scientists combine smarts to tackle global challenges - CSIRO
Climate change, clean energy and sustainability, building low emissions technologies and developing ethical artificial intelligence are some of the challenges being tackled by CSIRO, Australia's national science agency, and the United States National Science Foundation (NSF) under a multi-million-dollar partnership. The recently established partnership between the two leading science organisations is aiming to accelerate joint research and initiatives in areas of mutual priority between Australia and the United States. CSIRO Chief Executive Larry Marshall said the two leading science organisations have already enabled a number of opportunities across the two countries in only a year, launching this month an AUD$100 million Global Centers initiative, partnering in the areas of responsible and ethical Artificial Intelligence (AI) and developing sustainable materials for global challenges. "As national science agencies, CSIRO and the NSF are working together to build international bridges for national benefit, strengthening our science and innovation to improve lives around the world," Dr Marshall said. "As the world races towards new applications for technologies like AI, it will take global collaboration to champion responsible and ethical applications that embrace the full potential of technological advances and drive healthy competitive advantages.

Another Firing Among Google's A.I. Brain Trust, and More Discord
"We thoroughly vetted the original Nature paper and stand by the peer-reviewed results," Zoubin Ghahramani, a vice president at Google Research, said in a written statement. "We also rigorously investigated the technical claims of a subsequent submission, and it did not meet our standards for publication." Dr. Chatterjee's dismissal was the latest example of discord in and around Google Brain, an A.I. research group considered to be a key to the company's future. After spending billions of dollars to hire top researchers and create new kinds of computer automation, Google has struggled with a wide variety of complaints about how it builds, uses and portrays those technologies. Tension among Google's A.I. researchers reflects much larger struggles across the tech industry, which faces myriad questions over new A.I. technologies and the thorny social issues that have entangled these technologies and the people who build them.
Building AI Brain Trust For Board Directors And CEOS - Series
Leadership in AI requires seeing the horizon and planting poles clearly to guide those who follow. This blog is a continuation of the Building an AI Leadership Brain Trust Blog Series which targets board directors to accelerate their duty of care to develop stronger skills and competencies in AI. Either modernize or atrophy is a reality for laggard companies not preparing to compete in the increasingly intelligent world, where sensors and AI methods will be embedded in every business process. Over 80% of the companies investing in AI do not drive ongoing operational practices, rather AI is an investigative approach used to answer difficult questions, but unfortunately sustaining sponsorship to sustain the AI models, in many cases, simply dies off. I have identified over 40 overall skill domains in the AI Leadership Brain Trust Framework, and you can see the full roster, see my first blog.

Rams' temporary offices in Agoura Hills are open for (non-football) business
An actual-size model of a Warhammer robot stands just inside the door of the Rams' new temporary offices in Agoura Hills. The action figure was left behind by a video game company that occupied the space before the Rams officially opened for business in Southern California. On Monday, the character was adorned in a No. 3 Rams jersey. "It's exciting for the staff to finally be together for the first time in an office space, to be the Los Angeles Rams," Kevin Demoff, the team's chief operating officer, said during a brief interview in his office. "It's fantastic to have the group here and really laying the foundation for the 2016 season and beyond."
